Welcome to The Green Barn at OGH: Home of the Orchard Crew
At OGH, we take pride in our Green Barn, a dedicated area within our sanctuary. Here, you’ll find the Orchard Crew, a diverse group of goats with varying sizes, breeds, and ages. Let’s explore what makes this crew so special:
Senior Goats: Our wise elders, who have seen it all.
Transition Goats: Those navigating life’s changes.
Immune-Compromised Younger Goats: Receiving extra care and attention.
Ex-Dairy Does: Former milk producers facing health challenges.
Goats with Teeth: Still able to enjoy hay and browse.
The Young & The Wise, Orchard Crew Members:
Stirling and Lira: The Youngest duo is OGH's spirited twin brother and sister, both three years old.
Kingi: Possibly our oldest resident, thriving alongside his sons Brolin and Cricket.
Diet and Grazing During winter, the Orchard Crew feasts on second-cut Orchard grass—a nutritious staple. They devour up to 7 bales a day, adjusting based on bale weight. As the weather warms, they roam 22 acres of lush, 3-4ft tall browse and grass. We carefully manage grazing to prevent parasite buildup.
Customized Care Our Goat Guardians tailor care to each goat’s unique needs. These goats coexist harmoniously in two large herds, enjoying companionship and shared space . Mineral Bars The Orchard Crew’s mineral bars are meticulously customized. We consider seasonal changes, hay quality, well water, and soil nutrients. Preventative care and optimal health is our priority.
Individual Records Every goat has a digital file, meticulously dated. These records track hoof trims, vaccines, and specific issues. Whether it’s allergies, mites, or seasonal respiratory challenges, the Goat Guardians are on it!
Medicinal Garden In 2024, we’re thrilled to announce the construction of a medicinal garden. This addition will enhance our holistic care for all the goats at OGH. As Goat Guardians, our commitment to individualized care isn’t just a promise—it’s our passion. Join us in celebrating these remarkable animals!
