Every single day the goat guardians of OGH are on the look out for changes in behavior & health issues.OGH collaborates closely with two species-specific veterinary teams. Given the special needs of OGH’s elderly animals, the goat guardians diligently perform tasks such as trimming hooves, monitoring famacha scores, and observing behavior changes that could indicate serious conditions. Recognizing that both humans and animals have unique requirements as they age, the goat guardians promptly address these issues to ensure the well-being and thriving of the animals at any stage of life that they are at.

The Old Goats Home & Rescue journey began when our family witnessed a concerning number of goats facing slaughter, auction or homelessness as they age. Due to a lack of community education and support, goats were being abandoned and left to survive on their own. Other rescue organizations were unable to take in more goats due to limited space. Neglect, slaughter, and abandonment of goats became increasingly common. Goats were staying in rescues longer than necessary due to behavior issues, disabilities and age. After witnessing this tragedy, we decided to provide a safe haven for these goaties with the promise that we will grow old with them all.
Our first older goat, Skippy (the inspiration for our logo), whose changing needs as he aged led to the creation of The Old Goats Home and Rescue. Skippy, Zombie George, Sally, Bam Bam, Pepper, Cal, and Frack were our initial residents who required specialized care. We have been operating for four years and officially became a nonprofit organization in January 2020 to address the community's growing need for a place to care for older or challenging goats. We are dedicated to researching and providing tailored care to ensure the well-being and happiness of each goat under our care. While our primary focus is on goats, we also welcome other species in need of shelter in emergency cases. We keep our doors open where possible because we believe everybody deserves individualized care where they feel safe, loved, and have a 5 star healthcare plan. EVERYBODY deserves a chance EVERYBODY deserves to feel loved & EVERYBODY deserves a forever home. |
