At OGH, we’re all about compassion, care, and community. Let me introduce you to some of our delightful residents:
The Fluffy Butt Huts: Our cozy huts are home to a lively flock of hens, including two very tiny but manly roosters. Meet Pumpkin, the naked showgirl rooster (yes, he arrived on Halloween!), and Mr. Nigel Nichols, the bantam transferred from Seattle Humane. These elderly hens, comprising 80% of the flock, thrive in their exclusive habitat. And guess who’s allowed entry? Jake, the big, flashy turkey man, sneaks in through the back door—because the front gate is reserved for those who prefer to fly over it and head straight to the compost pile!
The Quackers: Our duck crew--Emerald and Perry, the two males—know how to balance exclusive relationships with a touch of adventure. They each have two girls on the side: Pricilla, Eddy, Patches, Pixie, Trixie, Pippy, Tommy, and Annika. Despite being four separate rescues, they’ve formed an unbreakable bond. These ducks waddle around the sanctuary like they own the place, quacking up a storm and leading everyone to the best pond of the day.
The Feisty Geese: Our three geese have been with us since they were babies, but they didn’t exactly warm up to the humans at OGH. Remember those stories of geese chasing people and flapping their wings? Well, our 8-year-old geese embody that spirit! Every morning during Spring fling, the two boys engage in a fierce pond battle to determine the head goose for the day. Goose Goose may not have many wins under his belt, but he sure tries. And quietly overseeing it all is Gazelle, who keeps the boys in check.
Special Needs Heroes: Our sanctuary also houses a special needs flock, a quarantine area, a recovery zone, and a small animal ICU. At any given time, we care for 16 to 25 hens across these areas. Each “fluffy butt” has their own medical chart and digital history, as they face unique challenges and receive personalized attention.
Why do we do this? Because we believe that everybody deserves a chance, love, and a forever home. With your support, we’re creating a safe haven for neglected, abused, and unwanted animals—from birth to hospice care and beyond.
